VIC:Drug-driver jailed for killing grandmother

A Victorian judge has won the support of Premier TED BAILLIEU .. after she called for
the immediate suspension of a driver's licence when it's clear that person's a danger
to the public.

Delivering sentence on a man who was driving under the influence of heroin when he
killed a 71-year-old grandmother in a car crash .. Judge LISA HANNAN said police need
the power to stop these incidents before they occur.

JOSEPH BRIGANTE had been spoken to by police about his erratic driving a number of
times in the 10 days leading up to the crash which killed BARBARA DIGBY in May last year.

Mr BAILLIEU's agreed that police should have the power to get certain drivers off the
road before it's too late.

BRIGANTE's been sentenced to six years and two months in prison .. with a non-parole
period of four years.
