The city's victory in a 6-year-old skirmish to annex a portion of farmland in North Greenbush could result in long-term - and badly needed - tax revenue for both the city and the school district.
But any gains for Rensselaer would mean direct losses for North Greenbush, so while city officials welcomed the annexation order - handed down in a state appeals court decision last week - town officials claimed it set a bad precedent and could touch off a "bidding war" between municipalties for valuable border lands.
